Veterans Pathways Program Counseling Services

The Veterans Pathways Program is proud to partner with Mindfully to provide mental health services for veterans and their families.

At this time, counseling services are being provided by Kateland Keene, LSW, our in-house social worker. Through Mindfully Counseling, Kateland is able to accept Medicaid, Medicare, and most major insurance plans. For veterans who do not have health insurance, a limited number of pro bono counseling appointments are available based on need and availability. Free counseling services for individuals without insurance are currently only available through Kateland.

Veterans with Medicaid or Medicare can typically access services with little to no out-of-pocket cost, as these plans are accepted and counseling services are generally covered by insurance.
If you have a different insurance provider and are interested in counseling, please reach out to discuss your options. Insurance acceptance varies, and we can help determine whether your plan is accepted.

If you would prefer to work with a different clinician, Kateland can also assist with referrals to other therapists within Mindfully Counseling. Veterans are welcome to explore available providers and specialties by visiting Mindfully's clinician directory at: https://mindfully.com/individual-therapy/

Important Note: Federal and state regulations require clinicians to bill insurance when a client has active health insurance coverage. As a result, counseling services cannot generally be provided pro bono to individuals who have health insurance available.

Veterans with TRICARE insurance should note that TRICARE regulations require services to be provided by an independently licensed clinician. While Kateland is unable to provide those services directly, she can assist with an internal referral to a qualified clinician at Mindfully and help connect you to care.

No veteran should have to navigate life's challenges alone. We are committed to helping veterans access quality mental health care and connecting them with the support they deserve.
Future Plans for In-Person Services
The Veterans Pathways Program is actively working toward offering in-person counseling services at The St. Marys Community Armory. While virtual counseling is available now, the timeline for in-person services has been impacted by construction schedules, financing, and the ongoing renovation of office space within the building.

A key part of the project includes installing permanent heating and completing the basement office renovations. Once the offices are finished and pass the necessary inspections, we anticipate being able to begin offering in-person services to veterans and community members.

For Medicaid and Medicare clients, services can begin relatively quickly after approval because those programs allow retroactive billing. Individuals without insurance may also be eligible for pro bono services based on availability. Clients with commercial insurance plans may experience additional delays, as each insurance provider requires separate credentialing and approval before services can be billed in person.

Our hope is to have the office space completed and ready for services as soon as possible, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we continue building a sustainable program that can serve veterans for years to come.
